Hearing Impairment (young people)
Challenges
This clip shows young people with hearing impairments discussing some of the challenges they face. The difficulty of caring for hearing equipment and the limits to its effectiveness in noisy situations is mentioned. Several students reveal the effects of teasing and bullying at school and their subsequent hurt and withdrawal. One explains that it is easier to communicate and socialise with peers who also have a hearing impairment. This clip is one of a series that shows young Indigenous and non-Indigenous people talking about living with hearing impairment.
These Speaking from Experience clips feature six young people discussing the impact that having a hearing impairment has had on their lives. It was produced in partnership with Australian Hearing and the Aboriginal Medical Service of Western Sydney.
