Bowel cancer, also known as colorectal cancer, affects any part of the large bowel or rectum. It is also known as colon cancer or rectum cancer depending on its location.
Most bowel cancers start as non-threatening growths called polyps on the lining of the bowel. However adenomatous polyps can become cancerous (malignant) and form into cancerous tumours.
In extreme cases, the cancer can spread (metastasise) to other organs besides the bowel.
In these 'Speaking From Experience' video clips, five people share their stories on living with bowel cancer.
